He Hears Us When We Ask [1 John 5]

10The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son.11And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

13These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

14This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

When we believe that Jesus is God's Son who has died to give us eternal life we have this life.  "He who has the Son has the life."  There is no middle ground - we either have the Son or we don't.  We either have eternal life or we don't. "He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life."

When we believe in the name of the Son we have confidence before God.  We can "ask anything according to His will" and  "He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him."

I hope these verses thrill your heart like they do mine.  When I ask for things that God desires to give me (according to His will) I can know that He gives them to me.  When I ask Him to give me love for that difficult person in my life, He hears me and He answers that prayer.  I don't have to sit and wait for some feeling that tells me He has answered.  I can know that my request is answered and walk forward in that love.  He does the work, I willingly follow His lead.  But then pride rears its ugly head with a thought, "Why couldn't she just answer the question?  It is not that hard."  I am back to frustration, impatience and ready to give up on the relationship.  As I recognize again that this is not love, I get to ask God again to exchange those thoughts and feelings for the truth about His love.  Bottom line, I am not thinking I am loved.  What the other person thinks has momentarily superseded the truth of what God thinks.  He does love me - I am His beloved.  When I know that truth, the other person's disregard for me is not the main thing I am focused on.  I can walk forward caring for her.  I can put my question before the Lord and let Him direct my paths.  He hears me when I ask and He answers.  His grace is sufficient for all I need.

I praise You Father that You hear me because of Your Son in my life.  I praise You that You gladly give me everything that reflects Your heart, Your desire.  Your grace is abundantly overflowing on me.  Thank You for Jesus who gives me confidence before You.
