Establishing God's Peace
Moab's Excessive Pride Humbled [Isaiah 15-16]
5A throne will even be established in lovingkindness,
And a judge will sit on it in faithfulness in the tent of David;
Moreover, he will seek justice
And be prompt in righteousness.
6We have heard of the pride of Moab, an excessive pride;
Even of his arrogance, pride, and fury;
His idle boasts are false.
7Therefore Moab will wail; everyone of Moab will wail.
You will moan for the raisin cakes of Kir-hareseth
As those who are utterly stricken.
13This is the word which the LORD spoke earlier concerning Moab.
14But now the LORD speaks, saying, "Within three years, as a hired man would count them, the glory of Moab will be degraded along with all his great population, and his remnant will be very small and impotent."
Moab was one of Lot's sons by his own daughter. He became the father of a nation that settled east of the Dead Sea. Ruth was a Moabite woman and a daughter in law to Naomi. Ruth married Boaz and became part of the line of Jesus. There are all sorts of other interesting characters in Jesus' ancestry; a harlot, adulterers, murderers, good and not so good kings etc.. The message to me is that He can take any sort of person and make them whole. What a great God we have!
God did not care for Moab, according to Isaiah 15-16. He clearly explained why He would judge her. It was for her excessive pride and arrogance. When I read that this morning, I got a knot in my stomach realizing that I had been boasting in my mind about something I had done. Before I could go on with the blog, I had to stop and spend some time talking to God about my pride. I told God that I liked feeling good about myself and that I couldn't even choose to be humble in my own strength. I needed Him to enable me to give Him my pride and asked Him to be humble in me. After a few minutes of prayer, the knot slowly went away and I was able to ask God to use me to write this blog. How easily I fall into the sin of pride and don't even know that I am doing it. And yet this sin is disgusting to God. Not only that, but it is Satan's sin. As I let my pride grow, I am following the wrong father!
God warned Moab. He even gave them a specific time that He would deal with them. He is God of lovingkindness, faithfulness righteousness and justice. Pride will be brought low.
We praise You, Lord, that you are careful to warn before you bring destruction. We praise you that you are a God of lovingkindness, faithfulness, righteousness and justice. Cause us to believe the truth about you and cause us to recognize our pride that keeps us from intimacy with You and blocks Your grace in our lives. And then, teach us how to talk to You about it and be rid of it as You reveal it to us.
