God's Perspective Is Not Man's [Job 24]
1
"Why are times not stored up by the Almighty,
And why do those who know Him not see His days?
2
"Some remove the landmarks;
They seize and devour flocks.
3
"They drive away the donkeys of the orphans;
They take the widow's ox for a pledge.
4
"They push the needy aside from the road;
The poor of the land are made to hide themselves altogether.
About 26 years ago, we moved to Japan with four little ones. I was still a fairly new believer and seeking answers for my many questions. I remember writing a letter to the Pastor of our last church asking very similar questions that Job asked in chapter 24 about why God didn't fix things that were so wrong all over the world. My particular concern at the time was the plight of starving children and why God didn't feed them. In my way of thinking, God had to be wrong in this if He cared about people at all. However, the fact remained that bad things happened and I had to face the fact that the Sovereign God allowed it. Because of my lack of knowledge of God and His Word, I was confused and needed God to grow me in a better understanding of Him and His perspective. Through the years, I have learned over and over that His perspective is not the same as mine. He sees all and I only see a sliver of God's much bigger picture.
Job was in a similar place. His incomplete understanding of God left him with the reality around him and questions about how God could let these things go on. Job talked about those who took advantage of the poor and needy and lived wickedly without ramifications. He noted that those who stole and hurt people died just like those who were the victims. Job was right in his conclusion about the world, but not about God's perspective on it. Just like with me, Job's questions were the beginning of God being able to teach him the truth. God has the answers our questions when we are ready to hear the answers and if we will seek Him in the Word, in prayer and in fellowship with other believers.
We praise You, God, that You are Sovereign and see all that is true in this world. Cause us take our questions to You and seek Your answers and not the world's.
