Walk in Love, Walk in Truth [2 and 3 John]

3Grace, mercy and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. ⁴I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we have received commandment to do from the Father. ⁵Now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another. ⁶And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

3 John

 ²Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. ³For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. ⁴I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

These two letters are from the heart of John, the Elder, and are personal and to the point.  He would much rather say what he has to to say in person.  In 2 John he writes to the elect lady and her children and in 3 John it is to his dear friend Gaius.  Both letters express his joy in hearing that they are walking in the truth. Both letters include words of caution about those who have strayed from the truth and are deceiving others.  The bottom line?  Stay in God's love and stay in God's truth.

We praise You God for You are truth and You are love.  These can be found in You alone.   Thank You for  grace, mercy and peace that You keep pouring on us all day long.  Cause us (by Your grace)to recognize the thousand ways that You are going to show us Your love and Your truth just today. Let us walk forward in that truth and love.
