Jesus the Miracle Worker [John 20]
30Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;31but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
John, the disciple that Jesus loved, summed up all that he had written in the Gospel of John in one powerful little sentence in John 20:30-31.
Our Jesus, the God/man, walked this earth, suffered and died for one purpose, that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah resulting in eternal life.
John focused on Jesus' miracles in telling the story of Jesus. However, only seven of Jesus' miracle made it into John's gospel message. John must have prayed and thought long and hard about which ones to include making the ones he did include special in some way or fashion. But I (Beth) am intrigued by John's statement that "many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciple , which are not written in this book." That statement is clarified in the next chapter (John 21:24-25) in his closing remarks. There he says:
24This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.25And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.
Can you imagine how many miracles Jesus must have done in His short three years of ministry, if they were written in detail, as were the seven John covered in his book, that he supposed
"that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written."
Jesus was the ultimate miracle worker! It is in His very nature to do supernatural acts that minister to people. And we know that He is alive today continuing in that miracle working through His Spirit in us. Perhaps after over two thousand years, the universe may not contain all of the detailed accounts of all the miracles He has wrought through believers through all of those years.
We praise you Jesus for your miracles that show us your supernatural nature and character and for the gift of faith and eternal life. Cause us to continue to follow You through Your Spirit and be a little part of a huge story of miracles on the face of this earth.
