The Lord God Who Judges is Strong [Revelation 18]

4I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; 5for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6"Pay her back even as she has paid, and give back to her double according to her deeds; in the cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her. 7"To the degree that she glorified herself and lived sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, 'I SIT as A QUEEN AND I AM NOT A WIDOW, and will never see mourning.' 8"For this reason in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong.

Babylon the great city has fallen "and the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning." We are at the close of the drama and God gives another call for repentance, ""Come out of her, my people!"  Even as God is judging the world He still offers mercy.

I have been amazed as I have read Revelation this time at how He judges in stages, giving opportunity for people to repent as they observe the horrible turmoil.  But they don't repent.  It also reminds me of the book of Jeremiah.  God gave His people so many chances to return to Him but over and over the people refused to listen and repent. Even as He judged Judah and they went into captivity God saved a remnant of people for Himself and offered them a future and a hope.

We praise You Father for being a strong judge.  We also praise You for Your strong love for the people You created and Your strong mercy that You keep offering to us all the way to the end of this world.  Cause us to sit at Your feet and listen to You today and receive what You offer.
