God, Worthy of Worship [Exodus 34]

4So he cut out two stone tablets like the former ones, and Moses rose up early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and he took two stone tablets in his hand. 5The LORD descended in the cloud and stood there with him as he called upon the name of the LORD.

6Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; 7who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations." 8Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship.

The LORD wanted to make sure that His people know what His character and heart is.  This is what is behind the Ten Commandments - compassion, graciousness, slowness to anger, loving kindness and truth.  This is His heart and He ALWAYS acts consistent with His nature. He is completely trustworthy.

Lord, we praise You for these things that You declare about Yourself.  You are "the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth." You  "keep lovingkindness for thousands," You "forgives iniquity, transgression and sin."  Thnak You for revealing Yourself to us. Cause us to trust You to be who You say You are.
