God's Presence Never Fails Us [Joshua 1]

5"No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.

6"Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

7"Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go.

8"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

9"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

As Joshua grieved his mentor's death, God prepared him to lead the people into the promised land. That preparation included three things:

1. knowledge that God's presence would not fail or forsake him

2. that he was to be strong and courageous and not tremble or be dismayed in the knowledge that God was with him

3. that God's Word would permeate his life and keep him on the right path.....

In a sense, we are all like Joshua. We are heading into battles of all sorts every day. There are battles of health issues, battles of raising children, battles of maintaining a good marriage, battles of sinful patterns, of difficult or lost jobs, of finances and on and on and on. Each day, we are in some sort of battle and God's encouragement to Joshua is just as pertinent today as it was then... God will not fail or forsake you, you can be strong and courageous in Him and His Word will keep you on the right path.

We praise You, God, for giving us a land that is worth fighting for in these last days, the new heavens and earth. Our battles are not against flesh and blood as they were in Joshua's day, but against wrong thinking and ungodly living. However, the promises and instruction You gave Joshua are for us today. Thank you that You are with us always, that in You we can be strong and courageous and that Your Word will keep us safe and on Your path! Cause us to believe these things. We can't, but You can!
