(D1) DVD Set for Semester One - Journey to Intimacy With God
How to use the EGP Semester One DVD's
Welcome to Semester One of Establishing God's Peace. We at the ministry of Establishing God’s Peace (EGP) are grateful for your interest and willingness to walk through this course with us. Before you get started, read through this information to learn how best to use this material for your situation.
The EGP Bible studies are designed to encourage you to get to know God in a personal, intimate way resulting in life change and God’s peace. You will start with learning to read the Bible as a personal love letter written to you from God so you can know who He is and that you may grow in your trust in Him. You can’t trust someone you don’t know.
God doesn’t just draw you individually, but He also invites you to discover Him in community with others. He calls you to proclaim to each other – “This is our God!” This study encourages taking others by the hand to grow together in living out the truth of what it means to believe God’s incredible love, sovereignty and forgiveness.
The leaders and the students all work from identical workbooks providing helps for understanding the lesson. It is hoped that this will be an encouragement for students to be willing to share this course with someone else.
Because life change is the goal, taking the EGP course is emotionally challenging and you must be willing to embark on a journey that is sometimes exhilarating and other times is frustrating. However, as you continue on the journey, you will grow in trusting God as Savior, Father, Leader, Lover, Counselor, Refresher, Healer… And He will give you the peace that transcends all understanding and guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
There is one lesson on each DVD. On all but the first DVD, there are three menu options as follows:
• Leader’s Information
(The first DVD includes an Introduction for Leaders and an Introduction for the Lesson as well as all the above for Lesson One.)
The Leader’s Information is a session made for the leader to view but not necessarily the class. During that session Beth Warlick and Verna McCrillis will pray for you, encourage you and walk through things you, as the leader, should know about leading that specific lesson. It will include illustrations and word pictures that you may choose to share with your class. If you are viewing the DVD series as an individual not planning to lead a group, you can still benefit from the information presented.
In the Lesson session, Beth and Verna walk you through the lesson. You can watch it, see the model and teach the class yourself or use the DVD to teach the lesson. We have made it so that you can use as little or as much as you desire. Please feel free to not show your students the DVD and instead let the Spirit lead you to teach the lesson yourself! Or if you feel the need for reinforcement, Beth and Verna are there to help. This is not a straight teaching lecture, but instead an interactive media. You will be encouraged to stop the DVD often to read scripture and discuss it among your class or ponder it on your own. In this course, you will not ask the class members to fill out the lesson before class. Instead you will be looking together at the different scriptures and writing down what you learn in class. Of course, if you are leading the class it would be wise for you to go through it first and have your answers already written.
We have endeavored to create a course without hours of homework for the students. Therefore, the students are asked only to spend daily time with God in the word and prayer developing a strong and healthy devotional life. This focus is intentional. Instead of your time with the Lord being a “study” or “fill in the blank” time we are encouraging it to be a time when you get to know God. To facilitate that focus we have developed the Establishing God's Peace Prayer Journal as a tool to help guide you on this new and fresh journey.
The Journal session gradually introduces you to the Establishing God's Peace Prayer Journal. Each week Beth and Verna give instruction and show examples of how to use different sections of the journal. The Establishing God's Peace Bible Study Book that goes along with this DVD has sample journal pages in the appendix. This gives you the opportunity to use it for a few weeks before you decide if a journal would be a helpful tool to buy. The journal can be ordered on the web at www.egpministies.com or by calling Verna at 757-451-4722. Once again, you can lead this section yourself after viewing it or you can show it to your students.
So what do you need to have at your disposal before you start?
• The DVD set
• A TV or screen to watch it
• A Bible (each person is encouraged to bring one although the scriptures are included in the workbook)
• Everyone attending the class should have their own copy of Establishing God's Peace Bible Study Workbook, Semester One
• A humble and teachable heart that desires to know God intimately!
• Eventually, each person may want his own Establishing God's Peace Prayer Journal (but you don’t need this to start)
What is the class time structure?
The course is designed for a two hour time frame but can be done in one and a half hours if necessary. Each class has three important ingredients:
1. Group Praise time (20-30 minutes)
2. Exploring the Bible together - Lesson (45-60 minutes)
3. Encouragement, application and prayer time (20-30 min) (If you have a large group this time would be done in smaller groups of 5-8 people.)
