He Has Known Your Wanderings [Deuteronomy 2]
1"Then we turned and set out for the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as the LORD spoke to me, and circled Mount Seir for many days. 2"And the LORD spoke to me, saying, 3'You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn north,
4and command the people, saying, "You will pass through the territory of your brothers the sons of Esau who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful; 5do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, even as little as a footstep because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession. 6"You shall buy food from them with money so that you may eat, and you shall also purchase water from them with money so that you may drink. 7"For the LORD your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing."'
It is always good to look back over a period of time and marvel at what God has done in your life. This is what Moses is leading the children of Israel to do. He is reminding them to remember how the LORD had blessed them. "He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing."'
Are you surprised that God kept blessing His people? Does the truth that God had been with them through the whole forty years and that He had provided everything they needed ring true in your heart? Didn't He say that He was angry with them these forty years? Didn't they deserve to be abandoned and left to their own demise?
Again we see that God's love for His people is not based on their actions but upon His character, His heart. He continues to give and give even as we reject and complain. There is no one like Him!
Lord we praise You for Your heart of love that demonstrates who You are. You know about our wanderings. You never leave us and You keep providing for us. There is nothing comparable on earth to Your love and compassion. Truly, there is no God but You. In response to this truth, cause us to stop circling the mountain and head toward You today.
